begat L___, who took the form of a girl child. And the demon S___ took the girl
child into the forest, and left here there, so that the wolves would devour her
flesh, or else she would die of the elements, for it was winter, and the ground was
covered with snow.
Left thus, the girl child became frightened and set up a great wailing, like
enough to topple the very tops from the trees. And a man came and found her and
took her to his wife.
They kept the girl child and named her Ang�lique, for they thought her a
gift from the Angels, as they were without children of their own. And then they
named her Katarina, which meant "pure". And she would topple Angels from
Heaven, and rivers would run red with blood.
