Water Dwellers: Nymphs

According to Webster's Unabridged Dictionary, Nymphs are one of a numerous class of lesser deities of mythology, conceived as beautiful maidens inhabiting the sea, rivers, woods, trees, mountains, meadows, etc., and frequently mentioned as attending a superior deity.

These included many classes like the Naiades, Oceanides, and the Nereides (see previous page).
A Dryad (also called hamadryad), is the guardian of trees or woods. In some tales, these maidens are linked to one tree, and will die if their tree is destroyed.
